Sullivan County Humane Society
(A No-Kill Shelter)

The Onyx Fund is a restricted account whose funds are used to specifically pay for extrordinary medical/surgical
costs incurred by surrendered/stray cats in our care.
Every cat arriving at Sullivan County Humane Society receives some amout of veterinary care. Sometimes it is just a throuough checkup and neccessary vaccines. Sometimes it is some first aid for a scratch on their nose. That is quite common and "run of the mill", everyday care. But other times our first encounter with a cat new to our charge is an urgent run to SAVES Emergency after they have been found hit by a vehicle, or poisoned by we don't know what, or even shot for absolutely no good reason. Sometimes we need to arrange for a life saving surgery for a chronic medical condition. And in those more serious cases there are x-rays, ultrasounds, bloodwork and potentially multiple days at the ER assl stretching our budget as we fight to save their life. Sometimes long before we know their story or even can say hello when they are conscious to hear us.
For those cases that go well beyond the veterinary care that is typical in a normal intake, there is the Onyx Fund, established in 2012 for a block cat named Onyx who required having her tail amputated upon arriving with us (although tail amputation may seem less consequential than some other surgeries, the tail is an extension of the spinal column thereby making it very serious).
